Murree, August 12: The government has unveiled an ambitious plan for Murree Expressway expansion project , aiming to enhance connectivity between Rawalpindi, Murree, and Kashmir while boosting tourism in the region. This project, with an allocated budget of PKR 1.2 billion, involves the construction of a 17-kilometer stretch of road extending from Rawalpindi to Sunny Bank in Murree.
According to the details, the construction work will be carried out in phases as part of the Annual Development Program (ADP) and is expected to be completed over the next six months. To ensure timely progress, the project will commence simultaneously from both ends of the route. The expansion plan is designed with a strong emphasis on environmental sustainability. It includes the planting of native pine and fruit-bearing trees that reflect the cultural heritage of the Pothohar region. Moreover, the project will feature the development of rest areas along the route, equipped with solar-powered lighting to provide energy-efficient facilities for travelers.
This initiative is part of a broader strategy to improve infrastructure in the region, making Murree more accessible and attractive to tourists while preserving its natural beauty.
